Turkmenistan is by far the most mysterious and unexplored of "the Stans" in Central Asia. Over the years Turkmenistan has slowly opened its borders to tourism and now is the best chance for you to explore all that the nation has to offer whilst remaining firmly off the beaten track.

The tour begins in the ultra-modern capital city of Ashgabat, also known as the “White Marble City” from the abundance of glistening white marble statues and buildings adorned with gold trims. Although statues and pictures of the President for Life, Saparmurat Niyazov - more famously known as “Turkmenbashy” - are still seen on almost every street, park, and at the front of ministry buildings, his successor, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow has made his own mark on the city.

Not only will you join the small group of foreigners to visit Ashgabat, but you will also be part of the even smaller group who have the rare opportunity to experience Turkmenistan’s Independence Day, participating in any official celebrations confirmed closer to the date and open to foreign visitors.

We’ll then embark on our journey through the Karakum Desert where you’ll explore the Ancient UNESCO world heritage archaeological sites along the Silk Road such as an ancient fortresses, a dragon themed mosque, underground thermal springs, an abandoned futurist tourist town, an untouched tribal village, and Yangykala Canyon – what was once a seabed is now scattered with all sorts of fossils and it stretches as far as the eye can see. We’ll return to Ashgabat on an overnight Soviet sleeper train.

No trip to Turkmenistan is complete without a trip to Davaza or better known as “The Gates of Hell“. A 70 meter wide crater which was a result of a failed Soviet gas exploration, and has been on fire since 1971.

Turkmenistan is a place oozing in both history and quirkiness. This is the perfect way to see all the must-sees of Turkmenistan, along with some of the more unusual places that you might not have heard of before.

Bookings close 1st July so to secure your spot on tour book early!

Archaeological excavations in two parts of this site has revealed richly decorated architecture and unique religious functions.
      • We’ll head a little north to Kipchak to visit the resplendent Turkmenbashi Mosque and Mausoleum – the resting place for Saparmyrat Nyýazow, the leader of Turkmenistan from 1985 to 2006. Wide and vast, the area was once a seabed, and scattered with all sorts of fossils, it stretches as far as the eye can see. In 4x4s, we’ll drive over the canyon walls, through the canyon itself, and up the other side, stopping at a couple of different stunning viewpoints along the way.

      Afternoon

      • We’ll have a prepared picnic outdoor lunch at the top of the canyon with spectacular views before
