East Turkey is one of the most naturally beautiful, historically rich and culturally vibrant regions of Turkey, however this area remains mostly forgotten. Instead of spending your Turkish holiday in crowded Istanbul, Cappadocia or Izmir, take a walk on the wild side and visit an ancient region undiscovered on our Alternative Turkey Tour!

Eastern Turkey has significant cultural influence from the Turkish, Kurdish, Syrians, Assyrians, Armenians and Persians. This truly is the gateway linking the Middle East and Europe, and is the home of thousands of years of empires and exciting history!

The tour begins in Mardin - a city very close to the Syrian border and just a quick flight from the capital Istanbul.

On your tour with us you'll explore many places of historical significance: Göbeklitepe, which is believed to be the oldest permanent human settlements site anywhere in the world! You will also visit the important religious and pilgrimage site of the Pool of Abraham, believed to be the place where the Prophet Abraham was miraculously saved from a fire. We'll then take you to the Ishak Pasha Palace near the border of Iran, a well reserved Palace from the 16th century that was partially damaged during the Turkish-Russian war with incredible views nestled between the rocky mountains.

You'll dive deep into the mix of culture with a visit to Diyarbakir (Amed), the de facto capital of the Kurdish in Turkey. In 2016, PKK uprisings began in Diyarbakir, local fighters used the winding streets to their advantage and were able to fight against the Turkish military. Almost 200 civilians died and much of the old city was damaged. The old part of the city, Sur is rebuilding slowly.

On our Alternative Turkey Tour, you will also see some incredible natural landscapes and beautiful sites, drink great local wine and enjoy cuisines from Southeast Anatolia which is believed to have the best food in Turkey!
