Your journey with us begins in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, where you’ll explore this unique Republic by the Caspian sea, going through it's impressive mountains to the recently war-torn Russian Republic of Chechnya. On arrival, you’ll see how Grozny rose up from the ashes to become one of the most peculiar cities of the Caucasus.

After spending several days exploring Chechnya, you'll step into the Republic of Ingushetia. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Checheno-Ingush ASSR split into two parts: the Republic of Ingushetia, which sided with Russia, and the Chechen Republic, which declared independence – starting the first Chechen war. History and politics are intertwined here and you'll get to learn about the troubled 1990s in the region.

Your journey will continue to the world’s newest unrecognised country, South Ossetia, which only gained partial independence from Georgia in 2008. After crossing through the Caucasus Mountains and entering South Ossetia, you’ll see the devastating impact of war in Leningor. In Tskhinval, the capital city of South Ossetia, you'll see the massive Independence Day celebrations, featuring one of the last Soviet style military parades in the world!

Next, we’ll make our way through Karachay-Cherkessia and Adygea, two lesser-known republics proud of their indigenous cultural heritage. You’ll visit rural towns and villages where the Soviet Union conducted mega projects during the space race. These are the lesser travelled roads, and that means something in Russia!

You'll continue with us to Abkhazia, another breakaway republic and a fascinating time warp back to the Soviet Union. We'll be arriving right in time for the Abkhazia Independence Day, the largest and most celebrated event in the unrecognised state.

History and politics are intertwined on this journey. Going directly to the heart of Russia, you’ll visit abandoned ghost towns, meet veterans and hear about war and sanctions from another prospective. With stunning scenery, post-Soviet relics in abundance and the hospitality from people who have experienced so much, this is your perfect Caucasus experience – this is our Dagestan, Chechnya, South Ossetia & Abkhazia Combo.

If you are joining us in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, you must obtain a multiple-entry visa to Russia.

Bookings will close July 18th to ensure sufficient time to obtain your South Ossetian permits. Bookings will close August 26th before for Abkhazia.
