YPT are experts in Afghanistan. Now, we are offering a very special and exclusive tour - join us as we discover Afghanistan by motorbike! This is a rare opportunity to discover a different side of this beautiful and complex country, meeting people from all walks of life whilst experiencing the must-see sights of a region long regarded as the “crossroads of Asia” or, to its adversaries, the “graveyard of empires”.
Your Afghanistan by motorbike tour starts in Kabul, the capital city, which will be explored by car. Kabul is where agents of the British and Russian empires attempted to outmanoeuvre one another in what later became known as the “Great Game”. However, we are here to experience life in present-day Kabul. You’ll explore the city’s core, including a visit to an active NGO that has been clearing landmines since the Soviet era, as well as a sacred site housing a cloak believed to have belonged to the Prophet Mohammed. We’ll also take you through Ka Faroshi Bird Market, one of the oldest and largest markets in Afghanistan, where rows of cages filled with an incredible variety of birds offer a unique glimpse into local culture.
The next day, we will set off on our motorbikes, convoying to Panjshir Valley! Panjshir Valley has been one of the toughest regions to penetrate by foreign powers and has been a hotbed for Afghan independence and resistance against colonial powers. It is also one of the most beautiful regions, nature-wise of the country.
Your adventure continues to Bamiyan, home to spectacular turquoise lakes set against the backdrop of the Hindu Kush. Once, two magnificent Buddhas stood proudly here. Though their origins remain uncertain, they survived countless empires and the arrival of Islam before ultimately being destroyed by the Taliban. Here, you can still marvel at the sheer scale and craftsmanship of the past.
Despite its reputation, Afghanistan is a country with a rich history, vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and some of the most welcoming people you'll ever meet. Our Afghanistan by Motorbike Tour takes place during one of the best times of year to visit this remarkable and often misunderstood destination, giving you the freedom to experience it the way you want to explore - on two wheels.
Travel in Afghanistan carries inherent risks, and while we aim to offer as much flexibility as possible, YPT and our local guides retain the final authority on any itinerary changes for safety reasons. Although the routes we operate are chosen based on current stability, conditions can change rapidly, and adjustments including rerouting or cancelling sections of the trip may be necessary at short notice.
You should be confident in riding a motorbike to partake in this tour. Please note that most international insurers will require you to have a motorbike licence for insurance to be valid. Young Pioneer Tours requires all participants to have travel and medical insurance applicable to Afghanistan, and for the purpose of motorsport riding.
